An oldie but a goodie - Heather Ross quilt

Remember this quilt? I've had it finished for a while now, but just never got around to taking good photos in good light, when the quilt isn't too crumpled, quite tricky!

I made this for Claudia, potentially for her bed later on, it's not exactly single bed size but I think it'll look pretty cute draped over the bed, and she really loves all the little pictures on it. And how soft is the Free Spirit Heather Ross fabric?? I just love it. I'm not really up with all the Heather Ross 'lines' but I think there's a mix of Munki Munki, Lightening Bugs, Mendocino, and a couple of bits of Denyse Schmidt's good ol Flea Market Fancy thrown in, I bought them all in bits and pieces and scrap packs from here and here, cut them up into squares, added a white border and voila! I didn't notice until I uploaded the photos, there are two dark squares in the bottom left corner. How did I not notice that before I sewed it all together??? oh well.

I'm sure you're thinking that I make a LOT of squares quilts. Well, it's true, I do. I've made trickier quilts in my time but I love the simplicity of squares, I love how it showcases the fabrics, and I also love the fast gratification of putting it together. But don't worry, I'm working on something a bit fancier, will post it soon hopefully.

More log cabin love

I've got a lot of Heather Ross scraps left over from this quilt (which I have actually finished, but yet to photograph), I just love love love this fabric and some of it is so hard to come by. Definitely a scrappy project required, what better than a log cabin Heather Ross doll's quilt?? My favourite fabric combined with one of my favourite blocks.

I just wish I had enough scraps to make a full sized quilt like this. But I've got my eye on Heather Ross' new Far Far Away III collection....could be a future project!

Ready to quilt....but how??

I'm in a state of indecision (what's new?). I just can't decide whether to hand quilt this one, or machine quilt (straight lines). It's for Claudia's bed eventually, and it's likely to cop a fair amount of wear and tear, and a lot of washing...hmmm. Might be a bit more robust if it's machine quilted. Anyway, it's basted (with pins, I must be leaning towards the machine) and ready to go, I'll consult husband tonight. He's surprisingly good at assisting with these kinds of decisions!

Quilts in progress

Quilts take a looooong time to make. Relative, say, to a dress or a top or something. So I try not to start too many quilts that I'll potentially lose interest in and never finish. But I so love starting a new one! So tempting to give up on that half finished project when you've got a short attention span like me.

Anyway I've got two on the go at the moment that I HAVE to finish before starting anything else, one is supposed to be for Claudia's first single bed (I know, it's a while off) and the other is a grown up quilt for the living room.

Here they are, quilt tops finished or nearly...

Claudia's quilt:

Serious quilt:

I bet Claudia's gets finished first. Because the fabrics are way funner!! Love those Heather Ross fabrics. Too cute.
